Huntingdon

Aiuchi Jiu Jitsu is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to teaching martial arts, self defence and Jiu Jitsu. The Huntingdon club reopened in 2015 (it originally ran between c1999 and c2002) and the Bedford club has been running since 2003.

We’ve been running self protection seminars and teaching self-defence, martial arts and jiu jitsu in the area since 2003. In addition to jiu jitsu we have taught self defence and self protection seminars for a number of large companies, schools and colleges and for various charities including Hinchingbrooke School, Sawtry Village Academy, Bedford College, the University of Bedfordshire, the Alzheimer’s Association, Condenast Publications and the Office of Fair Trading. We are affiliated to the Aiuchi Jiu Jitsu Association which operates clubs throughout the country.

Aiuchi jiu jitsu is a martial art aimed primarily at self-defence. We train in an open, relaxed way and don’t go in for standing in lines, punching the air or shouting.

Translating as the 'gentle art', jiu jitsu aims to use technique and movement rather than strength to subdue an attacker. Students learn to use locks, throws, strikes and kicks to defend themselves against a variety of different attacks. Because jiu jitsu is about technique, rather than size and strength (although that helps!) and aims to take advantage of your attacker’s weaknesses it is an ideal form of self-defence for women or those in public-facing roles. Jiu jitsu is often one of the martial arts of choice for those in the emergency services.

Students will normally train in pairs or groups using simulated attacks to learn the appropriate defence. It is also usually better to train with a partner who might be trying to stop you doing what you want to do!

Training helps to develop awareness, confidence, and provides a set of skills which help you to protect yourself.

Jiu jitsu is also an excellent form of exercise and a good way to meet new people. Why bother pounding away in the gym when you could be learning a new skill instead? Beginners are welcome at any time.

Our only restriction is that you need to be over 16 and willing to join in.
